The texts on the website consist of five romances by Chrétien de Troyes (Érec, Cligès, Lancelot (or Le Chevalier de la Charrette), Yvain (or Le Chevalier au Lion), Perceval (or Le Conte du Graal), which were transcribed from MS. BnF fr. 794. This manuscript was chosen because it is the only one to have conserved the entire text for all five of the romances. Other manuscripts will be taken into account for the second half of the project. In order to maintain homogeneity, we have disregarded the remainder of Chrétien's works, namely, two courtly songs of certain attribution (the first appears in two manuscripts, the second in twelve), the poem Philomena, whose attribution is doubtful and which can be read in some twenty of the Ovide Moralisé manuscripts, and Guillaume d'Angleterre, a novel transmitted by two manuscripts, whose attribution is highly doubtful. It should be noted that these excluded works are not found in any of the manuscripts of the five romances.
